The programs listed below are offered to you as members of the Greek community. Some are directed towards new members while others may be geared towards chapter presidents or house managers. If there is a program that you would like to see offered please notify the GLO at 935-5923.
Greek Leadership Retreat
This is a three day retreat held prior to the fall semester where IFC and Panhellenic executive officers, chapter presidents and Panhellenic delegates have a chance to lay the foundation for the upcoming school year. Team building, small group discussions and presentations are just a few of the event that go on over the course of the retreat. It is an excellent opportunity to build the relationships necessary for open lines of communication and collaboration.
House Manager Training
Every University owned chapter house is required to have a house manager. Prior to the start of the fall semester, a week-long training is held for all house managers. Policies, procedures, team building are some of the events that occur. The Coordinator for Greek Housing Programs plans this.
Greeks in Motion
Held in the fall semester, Greeks in Motion is an opportunity to have some healthy competition within the Greek community and at the same time benefits the University City Community. In the fall of 2005, the WU Greek community partnered with U City East, a not for profit organization dedicated to creating a healthy living community. The chapters are in charge of the annual Loop in Motion parade and other children's booths on the day of the festival. This year's Greeks in Motion is set for October 2nd - 7th with the Loop in Motion festival/parade taking place on October 7 th .
Greek Week
Usually held in the fall semester, Greek Week is an opportunity to have some healthy competition within the Greek community. Greek Olympics and Grand Chapter are examples of some of the events that take place throughout the week.
Lot Week Study Center
This pilot program began in the Spring of 2004 as a way to encourage academic achievement during Thurtene Lot Week. The study center was developed through a partnership between GLO and Cornerstone: The Center for Advanced Learning. Two hours of studying per fraternity and sorority new member is required throughout the week. Academic mentors, study snacks, attendance prizes and a convenient location are just some of the features of this center. For more information contact Nicole Morton Weston at 935-5923.
New Member Day
This event is sponsored by IFC and WPA as a way to welcome new members into the Greek community. Further emphasis is also placed on developing pride not only for your own chapter, but more importantly for the entire Washington University Greek Community.
Leadership Development Series
The Greek Life Office offers 6-8 workshops a semester geared towards all members of the Greek community, but is strongly encouraged for officers. Leadership development is an important part of the Greek community. This series encourages to students to learn more about their strengths, skills, and role within the community. Greek students can share their knowledge and experience with others. Guest speakers from around the St. Louis and within the University are often present. This series is held on Tuesday evenings and you can find the date and topic of discussion on the Greek Life calendar.
Presidents' Retreat
This retreat is held on Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday for all current chapter presidents. It gives them a chance to review all university policies, procedures and events for the semester. Some chapter presidents transition in December and this gives them an opportunity to meet the GLO staff and other chapter presidents.
Excellence in Leadership Reception
The Office of Student Activities and the Greek Life Office sponsor an awards' reception in the spring to recognize individuals and student groups who have made a positive impact on the Washington University community. The ‘Living the Ritual' award is given to the fraternities and sororities who exemplify what it means to live out their founding values and principles on a day to day basis.
