Greek Leadership Retreat
Fall Leadership Retreat - This is an overnight retreat held prior to the fall semester where IFC and Panhellenic executive officers, chapter presidents and Panhellenic delegates have a chance to lay the foundation for the upcoming school year. Team building, small group discussions and presentations are just a few of the events that go on over the course of the retreat. It is an excellent opportunity to build the relationships necessary for open lines of communication and collaboration.
Spring Leadership Retreat – This is a one day retreat held at the beginning of the spring semester on campus. The purpose is the same as Fall Leadership Retreat – to build relationships and set goals for the upcoming semester. In addition to IFC and Panhellenic exec members and delegates, other officers (such as social chairs and new member educators) may be invited to discuss specific programming..
House Manager Training
Every University owned chapter house is required to have a house manager. Prior to the start of the fall semester, a week-long training is held for all house managers. Policies, procedures, team building are some of the events that occur. The Coordinator for Greek Housing Programs plans this.
Greek Week
Greek Week was brought back to Washington University in fall 2007 and was a great success! This event will now continue to occur each fall semester and is an opportunity for students to have some healthy competition within the Greek community. Greek Olympics, community service projects, trivia night and Greek Prom are examples of some of the events that take place throughout the week.
Greek week will be held September 19 - 26 this upcoming school year. While only Greek members can participate in a majority of the events, many of the activities are open for any student to watch.
New Member Day
This event is sponsored by IFC and WPA as a way to welcome new members into the Greek community. Further emphasis is also placed on developing pride not only for your own chapter, but more importantly for the entire Washington University Greek Community.
Officer Roundtables/Workshops
Leadership development is an important part of the Greek community. Monthly roundtable meetings and workshops are offered for chapter officers to help students earn more about their strengths, skills, and role within the community. Greek students can share their knowledge and experience with others. Guest speakers from around the St. Louis and within the University are often present. During the 2009-2010 school year, roundtables and/or trainings for the following offices will be held: New Member Educators, Ritual Chairs, Brother/Sisterhood Chairs, Philanthropy/Community Service Chairs, Academic/Scholarship Chairs, and Standard/Judicial Chairs. Ideas for additional topics or areas are welcome! Just contact Lucy Morlan and lucy.morlan@wustl.edu.
Greek Awards Program
The first annual Greek Awards Program was held during spring 2008. This event was put together by Order of Omega National Honorary and sponsored by the Women's Panhellenic Association, Interfraternity Council, Greek Life Office and Student Union. Individual and chapter awards were presented and a social was held prior to the awards program where students, administrators and advisors could meet and mingle.
Social Management Training
At the beginning of each semester, the Greek Life Office holds Social Management Training for members of the Greek community. At this training the staff covers event registration, social policies, bus reservations, event guidelines, and general event planning suggestions. Each chapter is required to have at least three members attend this training to be eligible to hold social events for the semester. During this training, the social calendar for the Greek system is also established for the semester.
